Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
My water heater is leaking. What should I do?
Shut off the water and power/gas immediately! A leak is an emergency that requires prompt action.
Step 1: Locate the cold water inlet valve on top of the unit and turn it off.
Step 2: For electric heaters, switch off the corresponding circuit breaker. For gas heaters, turn the gas control valve to the “Pilot” or “Off” position.
Step 3: Call the Mas Air Home Comfort emergency hotline right away. Please note: if the leak is coming from the tank itself, a full replacement is usually required.
How long does a water heater last? When should I replace it?
he average lifespan depends on the type of unit and its maintenance history:
Storage Tank Heaters: Typically last 8 to 12 years.
Tankless (On-demand) Heaters: Can last 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance.
When to replace: If your unit is over 10 years old and experiences frequent breakdowns, a significant drop in efficiency, or visible tank leakage, it is time to consider a new, energy-efficient model.
What temperature should I set my water heater to?
xperts generally recommend a setting of 120°F (approx. 49°C). This is the “sweet spot” for safety and energy efficiency: it is hot enough to kill harmful bacteria like Legionella inside the tank, yet cool enough to prevent scalding and minimize energy consumption.
How often should I maintain my water heater?
To maximize performance and lifespan, we recommend annual professional maintenance. This includes testing the T&P Valve, flushing the tank to remove sediment, inspecting the anode rod, and checking the burner/venting systems.
