Attic Insulation

40% of energy loss occurs through the attic. Inadequate insulation in older homes leads to significant temperature variations between floors and can cause issues like ice dams and roof mold.

Proper attic insulation optimizes temperature differences between floors, reducing bills and enhancing comfort.

There are two main types of Canadian attic insulation materials.

Fiberglass material

Made of about 70% recyclable silicone material, through ultra-high temperature melting and sterilization to make fibre yarn, and then made into cotton state insulation material. This material is non-toxic and harmless to humans and passed the highest safety standards in North America. Some companies on the market will use relatively low-quality white fibreglass for construction to reduce the company’s costs.

High-quality pink insulation Owens Corning® is currently the highest fibreglass standard in North America. This is also the material we have been using, as we have always upheld the construction quality and material measures to the extreme.

Recyclable cellulose insulation

This type of insulation is when the recycled paper products are shredded and mixed with fire retardant sprayed into the attic to achieve the insulation effect. Because the attic is hotter in the summer and has a circuit winding complex, this kind of insulation cotton material is straightforward to burn and may produce irreversible fires, despite a fire retardant added. As professionals, we believe that all people will not risk the 1% possibility of their lives and property being burned down. Many small factories mainly produce this kind of insulation material, and the quality level is uneven; the price cost is also significantly lower than the pink glass fibre cotton. Another fact is that the flame retardant may cause severe injury and damage to the respiratory tract. It is not a recommended insulation material.

Basement wall insulation

Many new homes only have the upper half of the basement insulated, as required by government regulations. Contractors often meet only the minimum standards to cut costs, leaving the lower half uninsulated. This can lead to moisture penetration and discomfort in the basement during winter, along with potential mold growth due to indoor humidity.

Proper wall insulation is crucial for maintaining a comfortable basement. We offer professional basement insulation services to ensure a solid foundation before renovation.

Mas Air Home Comfort’s team can install or upgrade attic and basement wall insulation, improving energy efficiency, reducing utility bills, and extending equipment lifespan. This investment also increases home value.

Crawl Space Insulation

A crawl space is a narrow area beneath a home where utilities like power lines and water pipes are typically located. Insulating this space is crucial for improving energy efficiency, preventing moisture intrusion, mold, and mildew, and avoiding plumbing issues due to cold temperatures.

There are two types of crawl spaces: vented and unventilated. Vented crawl spaces are preferable as they help dehumidify the home. Insulation is installed under the subfloor between floor joists, wrapped with a moisture barrier to prevent moisture-related problems. Insulating an unventilated crawl space involves protecting the walls without separate insulation for ducts.

House insulation

Excellent home insulation is sustainable and provides comfortable living space and low energy loss for the customer living in the home, especially during the Canadian winter and summer months. Good attic insulation provides excellent top insulation to optimize floor temperature differences, save energy loss, and increase living comfort.

Pre-2011 homes are generally not built to a high insulation standard. Multiple ownership changes, renovations, and critter damage may have further reduced the top insulation, resulting in hot and icy second floors in the summer and winter.

Why Insulate Your Home

Insulating your home reduces energy loss by reducing the penetration of indoor and outdoor temperatures into each other. It will give you the comfort of a warm winter and a fantastic summer. In the long run, having a well-insulated home can effectively reduce equipment consumption for heating and cooling and improve the comfort level significantly.

The specific advantages of house insulation are as follows:

Optimize floors temperature difference

Poorly insulated homes can cause severe temperature disparities on different floors, especially in winter and summer. During winter, having proper insulation will keep the higher feet warm and the higher cold during summer. Insulating your home helps keep your home at an appropriate overall temperature, making your stay more comfortable while effectively reducing energy consumption.

Noise reduction

Home insulation has a high SPF, which reduces the amount of outside noise entering your home. It means that the insulation will be reducing the noise pollution you experience during stormy weather, certain loud holidays of the year, and especially near the road. The insulation will keep your home a relatively quiet environment.

Save energy costs

Good house insulation can help you save a lot of energy costs in the long run. Our insulation will block the heat from entering during summer and keep the heat trapped inside during winter. It will reduce the amount of activity from your heating and air conditioning equipment, which in turn saves you money.

Extend the life of your roof

Replacing and repairing roofing and roof shingles can be expensive and complicated. Insulating your home prevents condensation from forming in your attic shingles and prevents irreversible damage to the wood due to moisture and mould whenever possible.

Pest and wildlife prevention

Pest and wildlife droppings, food and carcasses can cause many health, noise, and economic damage problems. Insulating your home minimizes the risk of pests and wildlife nesting in your home and reduces the risk of damage to your home.

Qualify for government energy rebates

Ontario has implemented mandatory building insulation standards since 1990, with requirements continually increasing to meet rising homeowner expectations for energy efficiency.

Attic insulation requirements have progressively increased from R32 in 1990 to R60 in recent years. This means homes built before 1990 may have little to no attic insulation. Homes built before 2013 not only had lower mandated standards (below R60), but their insulation has often been compromised over decades through ownership changes, attic renovations, and pot light installations.

As a result, homes built before 2013 are eligible for substantial government energy rebates when upgrading their attic insulation.
