Mas Air Home Comfort
Attic Insulation
Did You Know?
In Toronto, the attic is one of the main areas where homes lose heat. Studies show that up to 30% of heating and cooling energy can escape through the roof. Proper attic insulation not only blocks cold drafts in winter and reduces heating costs, but also keeps out the scorching summer heat—maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature year-round.
During Toronto’s harsh winters, quality attic and roof insulation are key to keeping your home comfortable and your energy bills low. Mas Air Home Comfort specializes in professional attic and roof insulation installation, helping homeowners achieve maximum comfort and energy efficiency all year long.

Why Are Attic Insulation So Important?
The Main Source of Heat Loss
Under Toronto’s climate conditions, the attic is the most significant source of heat loss in a home. Warm air naturally rises—if your attic is under-insulated, a large portion of your expensive heating literally escapes through the roof, forcing your heating system to work much harder.
Ice Dam Prevention in Winter
Proper attic insulation helps prevent snow on the roof from melting and refreezing, which can form dangerous ice dams. Ice dams not only pose safety risks and damage roof structures but can also cause leaks and lead to costly repairs.
Structural Protection & Mold Prevention
The right insulation, combined with proper ventilation, helps stabilize roof temperature and prevents damage caused by extreme temperature fluctuations. It also reduces moisture buildup, lowering the risk of mold and mildew formation.

Sloped Roofs
Ideal for homes with well-maintained pitched roofs that have enough rafter space for installing batts or spray foam insulation. It’s important to maintain proper roof ventilation to prevent moisture buildup and reduce the risk of ice dams during winter.
Flat Roofs
Commonly found in commercial buildings, rooftop patios, or renovated attic spaces. We recommend a warm-deck system, where insulation boards are placed above the roof deck and covered with a waterproof membrane. This approach minimizes moisture problems associated with traditional “cold roof” systems. Always ensure compliance with local building codes, proper waterproofing, and adequate drainage slope.
Hybrid or Combination Roofs
These roofs are often the result of home additions or renovations and may not follow a standard structure. Effective insulation requires an integrated approach: insulation, air sealing, ventilation, and waterproofing must all work together. A professional roof assessment is recommended to evaluate structural load capacity and material compatibility.

Glass Wool
A high-quality, traditional insulation material made from fine glass fibers. Fiberglass insulation remains one of the most trusted and widely used solutions for residential projects.
Composition: Made from woven fine glass fibers
Key Features:
Lightweight and easy to install, cost-effective
Excellent thermal and sound insulation
Moisture-resistant and durable
Stable R-value, typically R3.1-R3.4 per inch
Best For: Standard attic joists, wall cavities, and regular-shaped spaces

Rock Wool
A premium insulation material made from natural rock and minerals, known for its exceptional fire resistance and durability.
Composition: Produced by melting natural basalt and other minerals at high temperatures
Key Features:
Outstanding fire resistance (melting point above 1000°C)
Superior thermal and acoustic performance
Dense, durable, and long-lasting
Environmentally friendly and made from natural materials
Important Note: Rock wool insulation is safe and asbestos-free. If your home is over 40 years old, we recommend checking your insulation material—asbestos insulation should be professionally removed and replaced.

Spray Foam
A high-performance insulation solution applied on-site, providing the best air sealing and insulation efficiency available today.
Composition: Made from polyurethane or other foam materials, expanded on-site during application
Key Features:
Expands to fill all cracks and gaps, ensuring complete air sealing
Creates a continuous insulation layer with no thermal bridges
Delivers the highest R-value: closed-cell foam can reach R6.5 per inch
Acts as both insulation and air barrier
Adds structural strength to walls and roof decks
Best For: Complex roof designs, areas requiring maximum insulation performance, retrofitting older homes, and hard-to-reach or irregular spaces.
Is Your Home Right for Attic Insulation?
Proper roof insulation not only boosts energy efficiency, but also helps extend the lifespan of your roof.
In Toronto’s extreme climate, where winter temperatures can drop below –20°C and summer heat can exceed 30°C, an effective insulation system is essential to keeping your home comfortable year-round.
Your home may benefit from attic or roof insulation if you:
-
Are planning a renovation or energy efficiency upgrade
-
Own an older detached or townhouse with poor attic insulation
-
Notice high energy bills throughout the year
-
Experience temperature variations, condensation, or musty odors in your attic or upper floors
We recommend scheduling a comprehensive home insulation assessment. Our certified experts will inspect your attic and roof to recommend the most cost-effective solution for your specific needs.
Our Promise: At Mas Air Home Comfort, we provide honest, transparent, and unbiased assessments.
If a simple repair is sufficient, we won’t recommend a full replacement.
If replacement offers better long-term value, we’ll help you with installation options, manufacturer warranties, and available energy rebates to ensure maximum savings.

Frequently Asked Questions
When Is the Best Time to Install Attic Insulation?
Insulation can be installed any time of the year, but fall is the ideal season. It allows your home to be ready before winter arrives. If you notice high heating bills or uneven indoor temperatures during winter, it’s a clear sign that your insulation needs upgrading.
My Home Was Built Before the 1980s. Do I Need to Replace All the Insulation?
In many cases, a full replacement may be necessary, but not always.
Our team will first assess the condition of your existing insulation:
If it’s in good shape but too thin, we can simply add an extra layer on top.
If the material is damaged, wet, contaminated, or no longer meets safety standards, then complete replacement is recommended.
Will Attic Insulation Affect My Ventilation?
Properly installed insulation will not affect ventilation.
We install ventilation baffles to ensure that fresh air can flow freely from the eaves to the ridge vents. This maintains healthy airflow while delivering optimal insulation performance—keeping your attic dry and efficient all year.
Are the Insulation Materials Safe and Certified?
Yes. We only use non-toxic, chemical-free materials that are approved in Canada.
All products are CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified and meet or exceed the National Building Code of Canada requirements for safety and performance.
How Long Does the Installation Take?
A typical residential attic insulation project usually takes 1-2 days, depending on the attic size and project complexity.
Roof insulation installations may take 2-4 days, depending on the roof structure and area.
Will the Installation Be Messy?
Not at all. We use professional equipment and protective measures to minimize any disruption to your daily life.
All tools are thoroughly cleaned before use, work areas are properly covered, and our team performs a complete cleanup after finishing the job—leaving your home spotless.
